In a large operation, Karnataka Lokayukta officials connected Saturday conducted raids astatine 25 locations crossed Shivamogga territory and seized astir 17,000 metric tonnes of illegally extracted sand, on with 52 vehicles.

During the raids, officers recovered grounds of amerciable soil extraction from riverbeds and its transportation. They seized world movers, trucks, tractors, boats, and soil filter machines. The Lokayukta directed officers of the Mines and Geology Department, Police, Revenue Department, Road Transport Office, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, and the Public Works Department to initiate further ineligible action.

The officers besides searched the bureau of the Senior Geologist of the Department of Mines and Geology successful Shivamogga and examined documents related to soil mining successful the district.

Lokayukta officials from Shivamogga, Davanagere, Haveri, Chikkamagaluru, Chitradurga, and Belagavi districts took portion successful the operation, according to a property merchandise issued by the Lokayukta.
