Tourism Minister S. Rajesh Kumar connected Monday released h2o from Pechiparai dam for Kodhayar and Pattnankaal irrigation systems successful Kanniyakumari district.

Speaking to media persons, Mr. Rajesh Kumar said that an bid had been issued to merchandise h2o from the dam from June 1 to February 28, 2027 for irrigating 79,000 acres of cultivation lands nether the 2 irrigation systems. The discharge would beryllium regulated astatine 850 cusecs depending connected necessity and availability of h2o successful the dam. In the aforesaid period, h2o would besides beryllium released from Perunchani, Chittar I and Chittar II dams.

The merchandise would payment farmers crossed six taluks of the territory and enactment the cultivation of paddy, banana, coconut and different crops. While 64,000 acres of cultivation onshore would beryllium irrigated done the Kodhayar irrigation system, 15,000 acres of onshore would payment done the Pattanankaal system.
