Virudhunagar district farmers asked to insure their crops during Rabi season

Virudhunagar Collector N.O. Sukhaputra has appealed to the farmers to insure their crops during Rabi season.

In a statement, the Collector said that the premium for the crops nether Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance scheme, being implmented by SBI General Insurance Company, could beryllium paid done banks, superior cultivation cooperative societies and communal work centres.

The premium for Samba paddy is ₹491 per acre. The premium for different crops (per acre) is maize ₹319, sorgham ₹136, cumbu ₹160, greenish gram ₹251, achromatic gram and toor dhal ₹252, fabric ₹473, groundnut ₹314 and gingelley ₹122 and sunflower ₹188.

The premium for horticultural crops similar corriander is ₹583 per acre, chilli ₹1,109 per acre, bulb ₹1573 per acre and banana ₹4,426 per acre.

The Collector said that the deadline for outgo of premium successful 2025-26 is November 11, maize, cumbu, toor dal and fabric is November 30.

The deadline for paying premium for Samba paddy, sorghum is December 16, crushed seed and sunflower is December 30, gingelley January 31, 2026.

Farmers request to wage their premium for coriander by January 17,2026, for chilli and bulb by January 31, 2026 and banana by February 28, 2026, the connection said.  

While registering nether the harvest security scheme, the farmers request to nutrient adangal, sowing certificates issued by colony administrative officer, transcript of archetypal leafage of slope passbook and Aadhar paper and receipt for outgo of premium portion taxable their security connection to the banks, PACS and communal work centres.

The Collector appealed to the farmers to debar past infinitesimal unreserved and wage the premium and insure their crops.
