On the juncture of the World No Tobacco Day, Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) person G.K. Vasan, connected Sunday (May 31, 2026), urged the Central and State governments and the wide nationalist to enactment against the usage of baccy by organising consciousness programmes implicit the sick effects of the usage of tobacco.
Citing reports, the erstwhile Union Minister said that astir 60 lakh radical were losing their lives crossed the satellite annually owed to usage of tobacco. Referring to a study, Mr. Vasan said that astir 13 lakh radical were affected successful India annually owed to it.
Public smoking and merchantability of baccy were encouraging the wont of smoking among radical and those affected were from each property groups, Mr. Vasan contended. He further called upon the wide nationalist to enactment against the usage of baccy among their household members.
