‘Use of earthmovers increasing risk of landslips in Ooty’

The Confederation of Environment Associations of Nilgiris (CEAN) has written to the Nilgiris District Collector, Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru, calling connected the territory medication to cease support for usage of earthmovers during the monsoon season, arguing that they were expanding the hazard of landslips on roadworthy margins.

“Every monsoon, the Highways Department uses earthmovers with the intent of clearing debris collected connected the roadworthy margins owed to rainstorms. It is pertinent to recognize that this occupation has arisen due to the fact that of the widening of the roads,” said Surjit K. Chaudhary, a retired IAS serviceman and chairperson and co-ordinator of CEAN.

Mr. Chaudhary said that the removal of trees holding the ungraded successful spot is expanding the hazard of landslips. “The highways department, alternatively of taking work for their actions and carrying retired corrections... continues to origin much damage,” helium said.

He said that the earthmovers portion clearing debris from the roadworthy margins were further destabilising the surrounding areas, adding that the territory medication should halt granting support for the usage of earthmovers by the section till the extremity of monsoon.
