K.A. Sengottaiyan, main coordinator of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), won the Gobichettipalayam Assembly constituency by a borderline of 16,620 votes. He secured 82,612 votes, defeating N. Nallasivam of the DMK, who polled 65,992 votes. V.B. Prabhu of the AIADMK secured 56,232 votes, followed by M.K. Seethalakshmi of the Naam Tamilar Katchi with 8,137 votes.
With this victory, Mr. Sengottaiyan has been elected to the Assembly from the constituency for the ninth time; helium was besides elected erstwhile from the erstwhile Sathyamangalam Assembly constituency. He has represented Gobichettipalayam 8 times, turning it into an AIADMK stronghold, and held respective ministerial portfolios during the party’s tenure successful power.
