The authorities of the Coimbatore International Airport erected tin sheets to screen portions of the airport’s compound partition that was damaged successful the dense rainfall accompanied with beardown upwind connected Thursday evening.

Sources said that the compound collapsed astatine 2 locations – adjacent Chinniyampalayam and adjacent the mud roadworthy connecting airdrome roadworthy to SIHS Colony. Damage occurred adjacent to the runway (05/23) adjacent SIHS Colony road.

The airdrome authorities deployed unit from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to debar trespassing of outsiders into the airdrome compound.

Flights disrupted

Inclement upwind conditions, including dense rainfall and beardown winds, disrupted operations of 5 IndiGo flights astatine Coimbatore International Airport connected Thursday, said an authoritative communication.

The affected services were Coimbatore - Bengaluru (6E 7582) CJB-BLR) which was expected to depart astatine 8.05 p.m., Coimbatore - Chennai (6E 659) astatine 7.55 p.m., Chennai - Coimbatore (6E 6812) astatine 9.05 p.m., Bengaluru - Coimbatore (6E 6875) astatine 8.55 p.m., and Hyderabad - Coimbatore (6E 6308) astatine 7.35 p.m.

Airport Director Mohammad Arif was unavailable for remark regarding the partition illness and the disruption of services.
