The Supreme Court connected Tuesday (May 19, 2026) extended till September 8, 2026 the tenure of each tribunal chairpersons, presidents and members whose presumption are owed to expire earlier that time to guarantee uninterrupted functioning of tribunals.

A Bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi passed the bid during the mentioning of a pending case. The substance was mentioned successful the discourse of a National Green Tribunal judicial member, whose word is expiring successful June. His tenure was besides extended till September 8.

During the proceedings, Attorney General R. Venkataramani, appearing for the Centre, agreed to the hold connected behalf of the Centre. The Bench noted that the enactment committee is scheduled to convene connected September 8 to deliberate connected appointments and extensions.
