Sugar cane vehicle owners seek higher freight charges

The Sugarcane Vehicle Owners’ Federation successful Tamil Nadu has demanded a revision of freight charges and enactment against overloading of vehicles.

The federation’s coordinators said that astir 10,000 dense vehicles and astir 6,000 tractors were engaged successful transporting sweetener cane to assorted cooperative, public, and backstage assemblage sweetener mills crossed the State.

Six-wheeler vehicles were often made to transportation loads exceeding the bounds of 12 tonnes. Many of them were transporting loads of up to 20 tonnes per trip, starring to predominant accidents, conveyance breakdowns, and snapping of energy lines, they said.

Illegal fittings

K. Moorthy, 1 of the coordinators, said tractors meant for cultivation usage were being illegally fitted with attachments and utilized for transporting sweetener cane.

Moreover, the vehicles were paid debased freight charges of ₹200 per tonne, which was not viable. The freight charges should beryllium accrued to a minimum of ₹350 per tonne, the federation said.

In a practice to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, the federation urged the State authorities to intervene to effect a revision of freight charges for sweetener cane transportation.

S. Yuvaraj, different coordinator, said the Federation had decided not to judge overloading of vehicles from February 1. “We person submitted petitions to assorted authorities departments, including the Directorate of Sugar and the Transport Department, seeking enactment against the overloading of vehicles and summation successful freight charges,” helium said.
