Spurious liquor racket: cases registered against 12 accused, three arrested

Officials of the Prohibition and Excise (P&E) Department connected Tuesday registered cases against 12 persons successful transportation with an alleged spurious liquor racket.

A squad of officials from the section office and NTR territory conducted a raid connected ANR Bar and Restaurant astatine Ibrahimpatnam connected Monday and seized spirit, unlabelled liquor bottles, stickers, and bare bottles.

According to investigators, Addepalli Janardhan Rao, an accused successful the spurious liquor manufacturing lawsuit astatine Mulakalacheruvu successful Annamayya district, had obtained a licence to tally the barroom astatine Ibrahimpatnam. However, Janardhan Rao and his brother, A. Jaganmohan Rao, were allegedly operating an amerciable liquor bottling portion astatine the premises, the P&E officials said.

“Cases person been registered against 12 accused, including Janardhan Rao, Jaganmohan Rao, and 10 others nether the AP Excise Act, 1968,” Bhavanipuram Excise Circle Inspector T. Gopala Krishna told The Hindu on Tuesday.

The accused — Addepalli Jaganmohan Rao, and Badal Dasu and Pradeep Dasu of Odisha — were produced earlier the Sixth Metropolitan Magistrate Court, the CI said.

“The tribunal remanded the accused successful judicial custody till October 17, and they person been shifted to jail. Efforts are connected to apprehension the remaining accused,” said NTR District Prohibition and Excise Officer S. Srinivas, who is monitoring the investigation.

Meanwhile, Excise unit continued raids astatine assorted locations, including the Ibrahimpatnam barroom and restaurant, for the 2nd consecutive time connected Tuesday.
