Shops in Erode district warned against selling banned tobacco products

The Erode territory medication has warned that strict enactment volition beryllium taken against shops selling banned baccy products crossed the district.

Kandasamy said the State authorities has prohibited the merchantability of gutkha, cookware masala containing baccy oregon nicotine, and different akin products crossed Tamil Nadu. From January 2025 till date, 807 shops in the territory were booked for selling banned items, and fines totalling ₹2.17 crore were imposed. The collected magnitude has been remitted to the authorities account. A full of 4,452 kg of seized baccy products were destroyed astatine the Corporation’s compost yard.

The merchandise stated that a store on Jeevanandam Street successful Kollampalayam was sealed aft it was recovered violating the prohibition for the 3rd time. The shop’s licence was besides cancelled, and orders were issued by the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department.
