SC issues notice to govt. on lack of regular appointments to DERC

The Supreme Court connected Monday decided to analyse a plea seeking the constitution of a enactment committee for expeditious regular appointments to the posts of chairperson and members of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC).

A Bench headed by CJI Surya Kant issued notices to the Delhi authorities and DERC connected a petition filed by Energy Watchdog, an NGO. Represented by advocator Pranav Sachdeva, the petitioner stated that a dysfunctional DERC would pb to a pile-up of petitions and applications seeking redress successful energy and energy-related matters. The plea stated that the authorities had not taken immoderate steps to name a judicial subordinate to DERC.
