The Supreme Court connected Tuesday (January 13, 2026) allowed a retired civilian servant to retreat his petition seeking the removal of the representation of Hindutva ideologue V.D. Savarkar from nationalist buildings, including the Parliament.

A Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant criticised the petitioner, a Chennai-based erstwhile Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, B. Balamurugan, for wasting the clip of the tribunal with specified “frivolous petitions”.

Mr. Balamurugan insisted that his petition was filed successful nationalist interest.

The tribunal initially gave the petitioner a prime of either withdrawing his plea oregon look costs of ₹1 lakh. The petitioner chose the latter. The CJI asked the petitioner astir his vocation successful the services, and whether helium had faced immoderate corruption charges.  The CJI said specified petitions revealed the “mindset” down them.
