R. Lathadevi takes charge as Kollam district panchayat president

Left Democratic Front (LDF)’s R. Lathadevi (CPI), elected from the Chadayamangalam division, assumed bureau arsenic the caller president of the Kollam territory panchayat connected Saturday (December 27, 2025). She received 17 votes retired of the 27 votes cast, portion United Democratic Front (UDF)’s Meera (Congress) , representing the Thalavoor division, secured 10 votes.

District Collector N. Devidas, serving arsenic the returning officer, administered the oath of office. The ceremony, held astatine the territory panchayat hall, was attended by the president’s hubby and Minister G.R. Anil, Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development J. Chinchurani, and CPI(M) territory acting caput S. Jayamohan. Also contiguous were erstwhile presidents P.K. Gopan and Sam K. Daniel, erstwhile Minister Mullakkara Ratnakaran, erstwhile Mayor Honey Benjamin, Additional District Magistrate G. Nirmal Kumar, territory panchayat caput Suresh Kumar and assorted governmental enactment leaders.

During the day session, S.R. Arun Babu [CPI(M)], representing the Neduvathur division, was sworn successful arsenic the vice-president and the oath of bureau was administered by the recently elected president. Mr. Arun Babu secured 17 votes, portion his opponent, Varun Alappad (Congress) from the Kulasekharapuram division, received 10 votes.
