Over 60 teams participated successful the district-level competition, organized by the Kodagu territory administration, Zilla Panchayat, and the Department of Agriculture astatine the bureau of the Joint Director of Agriculture successful Madikeri earlier this week.

The accumulation showcased an awesome assortment of snacks and dishes prepared utilizing divers millets, including jowar, ragi, foxtail millet, pearl millet, kodo millet, barnyard millet, and small millet.

Among the originative entries were ragi dosa, nippattu, chakli, kodu bale, kajjaya, millet payasa, millet pulao, ragi biscuits, achromatic jowar biscuits, millet cake, millet paddu, millet laddu, brinjal cutlet, and foxtail millet dosa.

Other notable dishes were jackfruit cutlet, buki kajjaya, ragi laddu, gulige payasa, sajje nadu, foxtail millet cutlet, papaya halwa, pearl millet halwa, millet vade, and fenugreek leafage vade.

Separate prizes were awarded crossed 3 categories: spicy dishes, saccharine dishes, and forgotten accepted dishes. First prize winners received ₹5,000, 2nd prize ₹3,000, and 3rd prize ₹2,000.

Speaking astatine the event, Joint Director of Agriculture Chandrashekar emphasized the nutritional benefits of millets, and encouraged radical to incorporated them successful their regular diet. He highlighted that millet depletion strengthens bones and provides indispensable calcium.

Awareness rally

Prior to the competition, an consciousness rally connected the value of millets was flagged disconnected by Kodagu Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Anand Prakash Meena.

NCC students, farmers, and officials from the Agriculture and Horticulture departments participated successful the rally, which began from the fort premises successful Madikeri and concluded astatine Gandhi Maidan.
