Madurai Bench orders notice to nine convicts in Sattankulam custodial death case

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court connected Friday (April 24, 2026) ordered announcement to the 9 policemen who were sentenced to decease by a tribunal in Madurai in the lawsuit of custodial decease of trader P. Jayaraj, 58, and his lad J. Benicks, 31, at Sattankulam in Thoothukudi district successful June 2020.

A Division Bench of Justices N. Anand Venkatesh and K.K. Ramakrishnan, proceeding the referred trial, ordered announcement to the convicts: the then Sattankulam inspector, S. Sridhar; sub-inspectors P. Raghu Ganesh and K. Balakrishnan; caput constables S. Murugan and A. Saamidurai; and constables M. Muthuraj, S. Chelladurai, X. Thomas Francis, and S. Veilumuthu.
