The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court connected Friday (January 2, 2026) directed the authorities of Hazrat Sultan Sikandar Badusha Dargah on the Thirupparankundram hill to behaviour lone the Santhanakoodu Urus festival and restrict the full fig of participants to 50.

Justice S. Srimathy restrained the dargah authorities from carrying retired carnal sacrifice, carrying nutrient and non-vegetarian food, and cooking non-vegetarian food. The absorption should beryllium enforced from the foothills to the top, the tribunal said.

The authoritative respondents, including the territory administration, were directed to strictly enforce the directions. The constabulary were directed to support instrumentality and order.

The tribunal was proceeding a petition filed by M. Manickamoorthy of Madurai, who sought a absorption to the authorities to prohibit the dargah authorities from performing ‘Kandhoori’ connected the hill.

The State authorities submitted that support would beryllium granted lone for the Santhanakoodu festival scheduled for January 6. Permission was granted successful 2023, and the aforesaid would beryllium followed this twelvemonth too. It besides submitted that support would not beryllium granted for ‘Kandhoori Mahautsav’.
