The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has released the 2nd Announcement of Opportunity (AO), inviting proposals from the Indian astronomical assemblage to analyse information from the XPoSat (X-ray Polarimeter Satellite) mission.

ISRO said the mission’s technological information person been released successful the nationalist domain for planetary technological use, and that important technological findings person been published successful planetary peer-reviewed journals.

XPoSat is India’s archetypal dedicated X-ray polarimetry mission, aimed astatine studying the dynamics of astronomical sources nether utmost conditions. The ngo was launched connected January 1, 2024. XPoSat serves arsenic a abstraction astronomy observatory operated by ISRO. The spacecraft is positioned successful a 650-km near-equatorial orbit with a six-degree inclination and carries 2 technological payloads.

The superior payload, POLIX (Polarimeter Instrument successful X-rays), measures polarimetry parameters — the grade and space of polarisation — of medium-energy X-ray photons (8-30 keV) from astronomical sources. The XSPECT (X-ray Spectroscopy and Timing) payload provides spectroscopic and timing accusation successful the 0.8-15 keV vigor range.

As the 2nd AO is unfastened lone to XSPECT-based proposals, observations volition beryllium carried retired betwixt September 2026 and March 2027.

The deadline for submitting proposals nether the 2nd AO rhythm is July 25.
