In a large leap towards operational readiness against emerging aerial threats, the Indian Army has initiated procurement of the indigenously developed ‘Saksham’ Counter-Unmanned Aerial System (CUAS) Grid System.

The strategy is designed to detect, track, identify, and neutralise hostile drones and unmanned aerial systems successful existent time, ensuring broad airspace information crossed the recently defined Tactical Battlefield Space (TBS), which present includes the Air Littoral (airspace up to 3,000 metres, oregon 10,000 feet, supra crushed level).

According to the Army, the request for a robust CUAS model emerged prominently during Operation Sindoor, which underscored the vulnerabilities of existing airspace power measures against hostile drone activity. In response, the Army expanded its operational conception from the Tactical Battle Area (TBA) to the broader TBS, acknowledging that aboriginal conflicts volition unfold simultaneously crossed onshore and low-altitude aerial domains.

This paradigm displacement enables crushed formations to support power implicit the Air Littoral, ensuring unrestricted question for affable aerial assets, portion countering imaginable hostile incursions.

Developed successful collaboration with the Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Ghaziabad, Saksham, oregon Situational Awareness for Kinetic Soft and Hard Kill Assets Management, is simply a modular, high-end Command and Control (C2) strategy operating connected the unafraid Army Data Network (ADN). It creates a real-time, integrated Recognised UAS Picture (RUASP) for commanders, merging sensor data, counter-drone systems, and AI-driven analytics, the Army added.

The strategy volition person features similar real-time menace detection and AI-enabled predictive analysis, integration of CUAS sensors and weapons for synchronised response, automated determination enactment and 3D battlefield visualisation, seamless interoperability with different operational systems, and inputs from the Akashteer System to representation each friendly, neutral, and hostile airspace users.

Saksham reflects the government’s imaginativeness of Atmanirbhar Bharat successful defence exertion and is wholly indigenous. Approved nether the Fast Track Procurement (FTP) route, it volition beryllium rolled retired to each tract formations wrong a year.

Once operational, Saksham volition signifier the backbone of the Army’s CUAS grid, enhancing decision-making speed, enabling swift engagement, and securing power implicit the Air Littoral. The inaugural marks a decisive stride toward a digitally enabled, networked battlefield, aligned with the Army’s Decade of Transformation (2023–2032).
