Seven Buddhist monks, including an Indian national, were killed and six others were injured aft a cable-operated obstruction cart overturned astatine a wood monastery successful northwestern Sri Lanka, constabulary said connected Thursday (September 25, 2025).

The incidental occurred connected Wednesday (September 24) nighttime astatine the Na Uyana Aranya Senasanaya, a renowned Buddhist monastery located successful Nikaweratiya, astir 125 km from Colombo. The monastery is known for its meditation retreats and draws practitioners from astir the world.

Among the 7 deceased monks were an Indian, a Russian, and a Romanian national, constabulary said.

Of the six injured, 4 are successful captious condition, they said.
