A 31-year-old income taxation serviceman has fallen unfortunate to an online recognition paper fraud, losing ₹97,963 aft being lured done a fake website.

The victim, Rekulwar Shubham, 31, lodged a ailment with the East Division Cyber Crime Police.

According to the complaint, the fraud began connected March 16 erstwhile helium received a telephone telephone from an chartless fig offering an RBL Bank recognition card. Shortly after, helium received a WhatsApp connection from different fig containing a nexus to a website purportedly for recognition paper application.

Trusting the offer, Shubham clicked connected the nexus and completed the exertion process. The website displayed a connection stating that his exertion had been approved and asked him to marque a nominal outgo of ₹2 for processing.

While attempting the payment, helium entered his ICICI Bank recognition paper details and authenticated the transaction utilizing an OTP. However, alternatively of ₹2, an magnitude of ₹97,963.47 was fraudulently debited from his account.

Realising the fraud, the unfortunate instantly contacted the nationalist cybercrime helpline (1930) and got his recognition paper blocked.

A lawsuit has been registered, and further probe is nether way.
