In a boost for India’s sustainable aviation substance (SAF) ambitions and alleviating immoderate unit amid the West Asia crisis, the Petroleum Ministry connected Wednesday (April 22, 2026) expanded the explanation of what constitutes aviation turbine substance (ATF) to see blending of the substance with synthesised hydrocarbons, that is, substance created from non-petroleum sources.

The gazette notification reads: “The pursuing sub-clause shall beryllium substituted, namely: ‘aviation turbine fuel’ is simply a analyzable substance of hydrocarbons conforming to IS 1571 specification oregon its blend with synthesised hydrocarbons arsenic specified successful IS 17081.”
