Former MLA, BJP district president among five booked for supporting illegal cockfight

The Vitla constabulary booked erstwhile BJP MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor, BJP territory president Satish Kumpala, and 5 others for allegedly supporting the behaviour of an amerciable cockfight connected the onshore owned by Muralidhar Rai successful Kepu colony of Bantwal taluk connected Sunday.

According to the police, the accused visited Muralidhar Rai’s spot connected Sunday greeting aft proceeding astir the behaviour of the cockfight, for which nary support had been given. When they visited, a large radical of radical were seen engaged successful cock fight. Despite stating that the cock combat was illegal, radical continued with the cock fight. The accused allegedly encouraged them to proceed the fight.

The constabulary took 20 persons into custody, who were progressive successful the cockfight. The constabulary seized 20 hens and the crisp objects utilized for the fights. Matandoor and six others were booked for supporting the behaviour of the fight.

A lawsuit was registed for offences punishable nether Sections 189(2), 49, 221, 223 and 190 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 3 and 11 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

On Saturday, the constabulary had booked Ashok Kumar Rai, MLA for Puttur, and 16 others nether the aforesaid sections for holding an amerciable cockfight astatine the aforesaid place.
