Former curate and Thondamuthur MLA S.P. Velumani of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has urged the authorities to instal cameras connected the recently inaugurated G.D. Naidu flyover successful Coimbatore metropolis to show conveyance velocity and forestall accidents.

Speaking to reporters aft viewing the flyover connected Friday, helium said the 10.1-km-long flyover connected Avinashi Road, precocious opened by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, was planned and sanctioned during the erstwhile AIADMK authorities nether erstwhile Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami.

“When the estimated outgo of ₹1,621.30 crore was finalised, the full magnitude was allotted by the past government. Administrative authorisation was issued by erstwhile Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, and the task was afloat funded by the State government,” helium said.

Mr. Velumani said the task was conceived to code postulation congestion considering the beingness of acquisition institutions, industries, and the airdrome on the stretch. “By the clip the DMK came to power, 55% of the enactment had been completed. The remaining operation was delayed, though it should person been completed earlier,” helium added.

He besides said that respective projects initiated by the AIADMK government, including flyovers connected Trichy Road, Gandhipuram, Ukkadam, Kavundampalayam, GN Mills, and Karamadai, were completed during their tenure.

Referring to the Athikadavu–Avinashi Scheme II, helium said it was announced by Mr. Palaniswami to screen areas near retired successful the archetypal signifier but has not yet been implemented. He added that the projected flyover projects astatine Singanallur, Lawley Road, and Saranayampatti junctions had not been taken up by the DMK authorities and that each pending projects would beryllium revived if the AIADMK returned to power.
