​Carrying kalasas connected their heads and chanting hymns successful praise of the Sea Goddess Gangamma, women from assorted sportfishing localities crossed the city, dressed successful accepted attire, made their mode to the beach, accompanied by men playing drums and shehnais. They offered harathi to the sea, pouring h2o mixed with turmeric, kumkum and flowers into the waves. Some besides sculpted idols of the deity with soil and performed peculiar prayers.

“The Sea Goddess Gangamma is our root of livelihood. During the 2004 tsunami, galore coastal cities were affected, but Vizag was spared owed to her blessings. Every year, we execute this ritual to explicit our gratitude and question her protection,” said fisherwoman Vasupalli Lalitha.

Another fisherman Yellaji said the assemblage besides prays for harmless returns aft sportfishing expeditions. “On this day, we connection our peculiar delicacies to the goddess and debar venturing into the sea,” helium added.
