Erode Corporation has extended the work play of impermanent self-help radical (SHG) conservancy workers and drivers by 3 months and allocated ₹10.45 crore towards their wages and statutory benefits.
According to the 2011 Census, the metropolis covers 109.52 sq. km with a colonisation of 4.98 lakh, dispersed crossed 60 wards successful 4 zones. It has 1,69,912 residential properties and 27,386 commercialized establishments. Solid discarded absorption includes door-to-door garbage collection, segregation, proscription to micro and cardinal compost yards, sweeping and cleaning of streets, autobus stands and parks, desilting, and fogging. Facing an acute manpower shortage, the Corporation appointed impermanent SHG workers for a three-month play from July 1 to September 30, 2025. Conservancy workers were paid ₹754 a day, portion drivers of airy and dense vehicles received ₹792.
In Zone 1, with 46,122 households, establishments and offices generating 35 metric tonnes of discarded daily, 230 workers were engaged. The civic assemblage allotted ₹1.85 crore for their wages and statutory benefits, portion ₹38.11 lakh was earmarked for 45 drivers.
In Zone 2, 58,177 households and offices generated 70 tonnes of discarded a day. With 350 workers appointed, ₹2.76 crore was allocated for wages and benefits, on with ₹51.37 lakh for impermanent drivers. In Zone 3, with 48,134 households and establishments generating 40 tonnes daily, it had 308 impermanent workers. The Corporation sanctioned ₹2.42 crore for their wages and ₹36.45 lakh for 44 drivers. In Zone 4, 39,873 households produced 40 tonnes of discarded daily. A full of 239 workers were engaged, with ₹1.79 crore allotted for their wages and ₹35.38 lakh for 45 drivers.
