Delhi HC dismisses plea for return to ballot papers

The Delhi High Court connected Wednesday dismissed a petition seeking directions to the Centre and the Election Commission to behaviour India’s wide elections utilizing ballot papers alternatively of physics voting machines (EVMs).

A Bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela declined to analyse the plea, citing a Supreme Court ruling.

The tribunal noted that the apical court, successful 2024, had held that EVMs are simple, secure, and user-friendly, and that voters, candidates, their representatives, and Election Commission officials are acquainted with the system.

The petitioner, Upendra Nath Dalai, had raised objections to the usage of EVMs successful wide elections.

The Supreme Court antecedently held that incorporation of the VVPAT strategy fortifies the rule of ballot verifiability, thereby enhancing the wide accountability of the electoral process.
