Court imposes fine on retired PU professor for defamatory remarks

The Additional District Court has imposed a good of ₹1 lakh connected a retired prof of Pondicherry University for posting indecent and defamatory comments against erstwhile Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee Vidyaa Ramkumar. 

Advocate Praveen Kumar, who appeared for the unfortunate said, the accused Arokiyanathan was archetypal sentenced to 3 months’ imprisonment by the Puducherry Chief Judicial Magistrate successful 2022 too being imposed a good of ₹2,000. 

As the accused decided to record an appeal, the Additional District Court modified the condemnation to one-day imprisonment and a good of ₹1 lakh. Failure to wage the good would effect successful his imprisonment for 2 months. Additionally, ₹50,000 from the good magnitude was directed to beryllium fixed arsenic compensation to the unfortunate nether conception 357 (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code, helium said.
