The Central Information Commission connected Monday (May 18, 2026) said the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) successful India is not a “public authority” nether the RTI Act arsenic it is neither owned, controlled nor substantially financed by the government.

The Commission dismissed an entreaty seeking accusation regarding the provisions and authorization nether which BCCI represents India and selects players for nationalist and planetary cricket tournaments.

The CIC said BCCI is simply a backstage autonomous assemblage registered nether the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act and was not established by the Constitution, Parliament, State legislature oregon done a authorities notification.

“The BCCI cannot beryllium classified arsenic a ‘Public Authority’ wrong the meaning of Section 2(h) of the RTI Act and the provisions of the Act are truthful inapplicable to it successful the facts and circumstances of the contiguous case,” Information Commissioner P R Ramesh said successful his order.
