Alok Kumar elevated to DGP rank, to head Prisons department from December 12

The State authorities connected Wednesday promoted Alok Kumar, a 1994-batch IPS officer, to the fertile of Director- General of Police (DGP) with retrospective effect from September 12, 2025. The IPS serviceman has been transferred and posted arsenic DGP of Prisons and Correctional Services.  

Mr. Kumar has been serving arsenic the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Training.  

In a corresponding transfer, B. Dayananda, who had been serving arsenic the Additional Director-General of Police, Prisons and Correctional Services, has been moved to the grooming helping arsenic ADGP.

The improvement follows the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) mounting speech the departmental enquiry proceedings against Mr. Kumar. This was successful transportation with the 2019 lawsuit of leaked audio clips of lawfully intercepted telephone calls.
