Of late, the Tamil Nadu Budget has been peppered with apt quotations and omniscient sayings that resonate with the socio-political and economical principles of the DMK government.
The Interim Budget presented by Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu connected Tuesday (February 17, 2026) featured couplets from the Tirukkural, verses from Sangam poetry, quotations from B.R. Ambedkar, and lines from Kahlil Gibran.

Beginning with the Tirukkural couplet, “To stock one’s repast with others, and each beingness to save, is main of each the lore that learned sages gave,” the Minister besides recalled Ambedkar’s words: “Democracy is not simply a signifier of government. It is chiefly a mode of associated living, of conjoint communicated experience. It is fundamentally an cognition of respect and reverence towards chap men.”

To underline the government’s committedness to protecting the environment, helium quoted Kahlil Gibran’s lines:
“Trees are poems the world writes upon the sky;
We fell them down and crook them into paper,
That we whitethorn grounds our emptiness.”

The Budget code besides echoed the Dravidian movement’s motto that each men are created equal. Mr. Thennarasu recalled Abraham Lincoln’s words: “All men are created adjacent is the top cardinal rule upon which our escaped institutions rest.”
