A 75-year-old antheral has lodged a ailment with the Central part cyber transgression constabulary successful Bengaluru aft being cheated of ₹63.30 lakh by cyber fraudsters who posed arsenic officials from the ‘Data Protection Board’ and arsenic unit of the Mumbai Police.

According to the complaint, the unfortunate received a telephone telephone from a mobile number. The caller claimed that enactment was being initiated against him done the ‘Data Protection Board’. The caller alleged that the complainant was named successful 20 cases and told him to cooperate with an ongoing inquiry.

Subsequently, a idiosyncratic identifying himself arsenic ‘Sandeep’ contacted the complainant via WhatsApp video call. He claimed to beryllium a ‘Mumbai Police officer’, and threatened the complainant with ineligible action.

Later, different individual, introducing himself arsenic ‘George Mathew’, contacted the unfortunate and told him to transportation wealth to definite slope accounts for the intent of ‘verification’ and ‘investigation’, with the assurance that the full magnitude would beryllium refunded aft the enquiry was completed.

Believing the claims to beryllium genuine, the complainant transferred a full of ₹63,30,000 betwixt February 7 and February 16, from his and his wife’s accounts to the accounts cited by the accused.

After the transactions were completed, the accused allegedly became unreachable by phone, which led the unfortunate to realise that helium had been cheated.

Police are trying to hint the accused and retrieve the wealth taken from the elder citizen.
