As galore arsenic 18,600 waterbirds belonging to 50 taxon were spotted during a survey conducted successful the Vembanad portion recently.
The survey, organised by the Periyar West Division of the Kerala Forest and Wildlife department, documented 23,000 birds crossed 111 taxon erstwhile wetland birds and wetland-associated taxon were taken together. The survey was inaugurated by D. Benny, Azhutha Range Forest Officer of the Periyar Tiger Reserve West Division. Around 125 birdwatchers participated successful the Kumarakom waterbird survey, which was organised successful relation with the Kottayam Nature Society. Students from TDM High School and ABM UP School besides took portion successful the exercise.
As a people of appreciation, the Forest section presented effect saplings to each participating birdwatchers.
