12 accused of disrobing Vantamuri woman sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment

All the 12 accused persons chargesheeted for their engagement successful disrobing and assaulting a 42-year-old pistillate belonging to a Scheduled Tribe assemblage person been recovered blameworthy and sentenced to five-year rigorous imprisonment.

The convicted persons are Basappa Naika (45), Raju Naika (52), Kempanna (52), Parvathi Basappa Naika (37), Yeallva Rudrappa Naika (67), Lakkappa Naika (26), Gangavva Basappa Walikar (62), Sangeetha Sadashiva Hegganaika (35), Santosh Naika 921), Sobha Raju Naika (49), Lakkavva Yellappa Naika (42), Shivappa Vannuri (53), each residents of Hosavantamuri village.

The incident

The incidental occurred connected December 11, 2023, successful Vantamuri colony of Belagavi district. The pistillate was assaulted earlier being tied to a rod and partially stripped aft her lad eloped with a girl. The girl’s engagement was scheduled connected December 11. But she eloped with a lad from the aforesaid colony connected the nighttime of December 10. The lad and the miss beryllium to the aforesaid community.

When her relatives realised that the miss had disappeared, they rushed to the boy’s house, ransacked it, and bushed up his mother. She was tied to a rod successful beforehand of her location and partially stripped. One of the villagers informed the constabulary who rescued the woman.

Transferred to CID

Considering the seriousness of the offence, the lawsuit was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The High Court of Karnataka had initiated suo motu proceedings and passed orders directing the competent tribunal to implicit the proceedings expeditiously wrong an outer bounds of 1 year. After the proceedings commenced successful the territory court, 45 witnesses were examined.
